Nothing is original; everything is a remix of everything else. Let me explain this by looking at successful technologies. One really common one is Apple, which copies already established products that make them better, like Apple Music being a copy of Spotify and AirPods being a copy of already existing Bluetooth AirPods.More examples:

  • Linux is a copy of Unix

  • Minecraft is a copy of Infiniminer

So how do you use this information in your own business or in your life?

Here is how I leveraged this to land my first Web Design client on Fiverr

Copy what's already working. Let me explain it by saying that I managed to land my first client on Fiverr. I looked around for people who had gigs that ranked relatively high on certain Fiverr searches, and I strategically copied what was already working, then changed it to be mine by adding my own images and a video and changing a few phrases because Fiverr checks if your descriptions are copied. And no, it’s not as simple as it sounds.

Here is a framework for it:

To implement creative imitation effectively, consider this simple framework:

a. Identify Your Goal: Determine what you aim to achieve or create.

b. Study Success Stories: Seek out individuals or entities that have already achieved the desired results. Analyze their methods and strategies.

c. Transform and make it yours: Take what you've learned, copy it as is, and change a few things to make it your own. Add your unique touch, whether through design, presentation, or messaging.

d. Combine Insights: Combine the valuable insights gained from various success stories to create something that stands out and addresses your goal comprehensively.

In Summary:

  • Copy

  • Transform

  • Combine

This process can be distilled into three steps:

1. Copy: Begin by emulating what works, using it as a foundation for your own endeavors.

2. Transform: Make it your own by introducing changes and personalization, ensuring your offering is unique.

3. Combine: Draw from multiple sources of inspiration to create a product or service that amalgamates the best features and practices, ensuring a competitive edge.

So, whether you're an aspiring entrepreneur, an artist, or an innovator, don't hesitate to embrace the Copy, Transform, and Combine framework. Let it be your compass in navigating the sea of ideas and possibilities. By doing so, you'll find that creativity knows no bounds, and the road to success is wide open for those who dare to remix the world around them.
